Swimming

Swimming in Key Stage 2

Swimming and water safety is a statutory element of the national curriculum for physical education. This means that every 11-year old child should leave primary school with the skills to keep themselves safe while enjoying swimming with friends and family.

Each pupil is required to be able to do the following:

  • Perform safe self-rescue in different water based situations
  • Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • Use a range of strokes effectively, for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke.

The P5 – P7 pupils at St. Anthony’s attend swimming lessons every Monday and Wednesday in South Lakes Leisure Centre. The cost is approx £20 per Term and can be paid through the School Money App. Each child receives excellent tuition from fully qualified instructors. Those children who start as non-swimmers are taught in the small pool and those who are confident swimmers are taught in the large pool and focus more on technique and skill. Regardless of level, the children enjoy their sessions every week.
