What is Safeguarding?
"Children have the right to be protected from all forms of violence, they must be kept safe from harm, and they must be given proper care by those looking after them". (U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child. Article 19.)
"When adults or organisations make decisions which affect children, they must always think first about what would be best for the child". (U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child. Article 3.)
The government defines safeguarding in the context of education as: protecting children from maltreatment. preventing the impairment of children's mental and physical health or development. ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care.

At St. Anthony’s Primary School, we uphold the principle that every child deserves protection from harm and a secure environment within the school. It is essential that all children receive support tailored to their individual needs, particularly those who have faced trauma or abuse.
In our school, we emphasise the importance of mutual respect among all pupils, irrespective of their beliefs or values.
We are committed to addressing the social and emotional needs of our pupils alongside their educational requirements.
The safeguarding of our pupils and their protection from abuse is a critical responsibility shared by all staff members.
To ensure this, every staff member, both in teaching and non-teaching roles, undergoes Child Protection training every two years.
