Pupils explored symmetry as a key skill in creating their own soldier portraits. They used charcoal to add definition, depth, and realistic shading to their drawings. To complete the effect, the children designed camouflaged backgrounds using layered tissue paper, giving their artwork texture and atmosphere. The final pieces were creative, detailed, and showed great confidence in using new artistic techniques.
The Blitz
Pupils used chalk to create dramatic silhouette skylines of a city during a Blitz attack. They experimented with contrast and shading to capture the glow of fires against the night sky, producing powerful and atmospheric pieces inspired by this significant moment in history.
To prepare for our ABL sessions this term, the children have been busy designing and creating their own animal puppets.
We explored different materials, practised cutting and joining skills, and talked about how to bring characters to life through movement and expression. Each child chose an animal, planned their design, and then created a puppet they’ll use throughout the term.
These puppets will become the stars of our very own puppet shows, where the children will work together to tell stories, use expressive language, and develop confidence in performing.
They are already excited to begin!
We learned how artists like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein used bold colours, dramatic shapes and dynamic text to bring energy and movement into their artwork. Inspired by their style, the children created their own onomatopoeia words such as BAM!, POW!, POP! and WHAM!
