Swimming in Key Stage 2
Swimming and water safety is a statutory element of the national curriculum for physical education. This means that every 11-year old child should leave primary school with the skills to keep themselves safe while enjoying swimming with friends and family.
Each pupil is required to be able to do the following:
P5-P7 pupils at St. Anthony’s attend swimming lessons for one term (P7 pupils in term one, P6 pupils in term two and P5 pupils in term three). Lessons will take place on Mondays in South Lakes Leisure Centre where each child will receive excellent tuition from fully qualified instructors. Those children who start as non-swimmers are taught in the small pool and those who are confident swimmers are taught in the large pool and focus more on technique and skill. Regardless of level, the children enjoy their sessions every week.
